Signing up to play cards...
Most card sites require that you register a user name, password and an email address to login to play cards online.
Many players establish a web based email account - to protect their identity and to quarantine card related emails from their main email program. For example free web based email addresses are available from GMail, Inbox, MyWay and Fastmail.
To play at Yahoo you will need to register a Yahoo email account.
For Zone MSN Games you will need a Windows Live identity. This can either be a Hotmail account or you can sign up using an existing GMail, Inbox or other web based email account.
Once signed in to a site, it is also useful to read the support pages to identify their preferred browsers, settings and plugins required. For example Yahoo and Zone MSN require that you use Internet Explorer, with settings to enable pop up windows. Most sites require the lastest version of Java and/or Flash are installed.
Computer Security
Computer security is as an essential part of life on the internet.
There are many types of threats to computer security especially those connected in the internet. These include viruses, spywares, worms, Trojan horses. But with common sense and up to date software they can be avoided.
- A Virus is a malicious code that causes malfunction, infect or corrupt files in the computer.
- A Worm is made of small code that spreads over the network nodes of the victim's computer.
- A Trojan horse is a harmful code, embedded in a downloaded software.
- Spyware is a software that secretly collects personal information about users without their consent by logging keystrokes, recording Internet web browsing history. This is often used interchangeably with adware and malware.
To protect your computer from the computer security threats, you are advised to install detection and prevention software and to observe some basic preventive measures in using your computer, as follows:
- Install an antivirus software to detect, prevent and clean viruses, worms and Trojan horses. Activate the real-time scanning of viruses. Activate the virus scanning of emails and its attachments before opening.
- Install firewall software with the right parameters to prevent and detect intrusions and attacks to your computer.
- Install anti-spyware software to prevent and detect spywares. Activate real-time scanning of spywares or adware.
- Regularly update your operating systems, antivirus, anti-spyware, firewall and other security software at least on a daily basis to patch vulnerabilities of your computer.
- Configure your router properly to prevent an unauthorized access in your system.
- Be careful in opening emails. Ensure that you know the source and it is not a spam or fake. Spam emails are the common sources of viruses and malwares. Before opening or downloading, scan email attachments, which are the common way of spreading viruses or malwares.
- Regularly scan your computer for viruses and spywares at least on a daily basis.
These are easy 'house keeping' procedures to keep your computer running smoothly.
