Thursday Night Gaming at Rockwell Hall

photoThe Buffalo Gamers Society!

Buff State gaming is another geek-focused venue of options. Can't play on Saturday RPG events? Try gaming here! Want to play a quick game of cards while waiting for your RPG group to arrive? This is the place! This just may be the venue for you! We especially are trying to focus on establishing a good Warhammer 40k presence here, as well as a good place to try experimental games, time and space-consuming games, and anything else that doesn't fall into the Casual Game Night category.

The first Thursday Game night of the new semester at Buff State was a success with 25 people in attendance and we're looking to expand upon it. Come join us on the 3rd floor of Rockwell Hall for gaming goodness. You can find us in Room 305, our gaming haven while school is in session.

Parking
You can park in any STUDENT LOT and we'll have a pass for you that you can throw in your car for the semester. It'll only be good for Thursday nights. It's important to note that most lots are student parking but the lot attached to Rockwell is not.

So now onto what we have going on This week.

Warhammer 40K
Bring out your army and battle for the glory of the emperor, may he live forever, or to end his reign of sacrifice and grief. Join our own Raligeh Love and Lorne Campbell and learn or play a game of the most famous miniatures wargame around, Warhammer 40k. Just be careful because once your hooked your in for good.

Board and Card Games by Jen and Bridget Monheim featuring Settlers of America

Jen Monheim, the Vice President of CRAGG, and Bridget Monheim, the Secretary of CRAGG, will have CRAGGs and their own personal board and card game libraries at this event for use. So if board and card games are more your thing come on out for a game of Settlers of Catan, Alhambra, Scrabble, Chess, or Rummy. The sisters will be teaching and showing off Settlers of America, a Catan and Rail game using the expansion of America to the west as it's theme.

Void of the Divine a 3.5 D&D campagin
Hundreds of years ago, for no reason, all divine sources of power disappeared. There was no warning, and powerful champions of good and evil suddenly became powerless. A few hundred years has passed and there are few signs of the gods presence but it's impossible to tell if these are genuine or false deities.

Characters with divine casting characters are allowed, but you are unable to choose your god (part of the campaign is learning of the gods) and no one can have the skill Knowledge Religion, instead use Knowledge History even if it isn't on your skill list. For house rules and other stuff show up Thursday, I will have a few pregens and I will be willing to help roll up characters."

The tournament will consist of two blocks of 8 contestants (Block 1 will contain fighters 1-8, etc.) fighting one-on-one bouts. The last fighter standing in each block will then go head-to-head to decide who is the ultimate power in the universe!

The fighters (in no particular order) are:

2. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Level 19)
3. Emperor Palpatine (Level 20)

13. Luke Skywalker (Level 20)
14. Kyle Katarn (Level 19)
15. Mara Jade Skywalker (Level 19)

Characters will be assigned by way of random drawing. Slots will be filled on a first-post-first-served basis. If you have a slot but can't make it, please post so another can get in on the action.

Block 2 matches TBA.

Lunch Bunch Canasta MeetUp - Intermediate Level

photoCanasta Card Game Meetup

Lunch Bunch Canasta MeetUp - Intermediate Level
Priscilla's Place - Durham

~~~~ IMPORTANT NOTE ~~~~
This session is restricted to members who have already attended an event and learned the house rules. If you are new to the group or have not played with us before (even if you already know how to play) you will need to attend one of the "All Skill Levels" sessions first (check calendar for next event). We will not be teaching new players at this session.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Come and play Canasta with us! If you are free during the day, Priscilla has been kind enough to offer to host daytime Canasta events at her house in Durham.

Priscilla lives at 4905 Bridgewood Drive in the Stonebridge subdivision of Hope Valley Farms on South Roxboro Rd in Durham. Coming from Hope Valley Road , turn into Hope Valley Farms, go l mile and the
entrance is just after the HVF pool and tennis club. If you get lost, give Priscilla a call (number above).

To get complete directions from your location, you can use this mapquest link.

We ask that everyone bring a snack or drink to share. If you have a canasta deck(s) and/or a card tray, please bring them with you.

A complete set of house rules are posted under “Files” under the "More" menu at the top and should be reviewed before attending this meetup. You might also want to print out the Canasta Scoring Cheat Sheet that is also included under files and bring it with you for reference.

Note: We ask that everyone donate $1.00 per person at each event to help pay the $140 it costs to host this meetup on the meetup.com (and how can you beat $1.00 for some great entertainment!) You can also choose to make a one-time $10 donation and attend events free for the rest of the year and have "Supporting Member 2010" placed next to your name as a thank you!

We look forward to seeing everyone and playing some Canasta!

Casual Game Night at Panera on Niagara Falls Boulevard!!

photoThe Buffalo Gamers Society!

Casual Game Night is your chance to play new and old favourites - card or board game, there are no restrictions on the type of game. Whether it's Chess, Uno, Fluxx, Monopoly, or something more European (Eurogames) like Settlers of Catan and Carcassone - this is the event to play it at!

Friday Casual Game Nights are at the Panera Bread cafe on Niagara Falls Boulevard, across from Barnes & Noble so we can get an hour longer to play as they are open until 10:00pm.

Typically we attempt to grab the largest table in the venue (Mixed results on this.) It's the large table in front of the fireplace - but if need be we spread ourselves out and play whatever.

I haul 2 whole large bags, packed full of games, to the event, so if you have no games of your own that is fine.

There IS a small purchase required for everybody at the venue, as Panera Bread requires the purchase of at least a soft drink.

Anyways, it makes for a pleasant, and very fun, Friday evening, and hope to see some of you there!
